COINS 24 Peaks - KMI climbs every mountain!

A team of intrepid walkers from KMI set off last Friday to take part in the COINS 24 Peaks Challenge.

This test of endurance, stamina and mental and physical fitness involved  trekking through the heart of the Lake District, conquering 24 peaks, each over 2,400 feet, with a total 13,000 feet height gain, covering 32.5 miles. All in a challenging 24 hours!

The team was led by Michael Taylor, aided by Jonathan Edwards, Charles Coates, Gary King, Ryan Hennessy, Robert Horan, Mark Rittenberg and Mark Harrison with support crew and drivers Simon Sheil and Paul Brooks. Read more >> about COINS 24 Peaks - KMI climbs every mountain!

Gold Glory for Keswick

Members of the Keswick project team attended a prestigious ceremony in Swindon on Monday 24 June to find out exactly what level of Green Apple Award they had won.  The project was shortlisted on 11 April, announced as a winner on 23 April and then the wait began to see if they would receive the bronze, silver or gold accolade. The fantastic news is that they won a GOLD International Green Apple Award for the Built Environment.

United Utilities project manager Simon Povey said everyone on the scheme was delighted, and he paid thanks in particular to KMI who have been carrying out the works within the town. Major Rescue Exercise at Walton le Dale

Staff at KMI’s Walton le Dale project recently welcomed the Lancashire Fire and Rescue service to site to conduct a rescue training exercise. The rescue scenario involved the recovery of an injured person and a member of the emergency services from a ten metre segment shaft.

Over thirty emergency service crew members attended site including Urban Search and Rescue (USAR), North West Ambulance Service and Green Watch Fire Service from surrounding areas including Bamber Bridge, Leyland and Manchester. Following a site induction the exercise commenced with the first watch responding to the scene to fully assess the incident which was a scenario based on a trespasser gaining access to the shaft and falling resulting in serious injuries and unconsciousness. Wootty's Footy Mile for Macmillan

KMI Design Coordinator Chris Fitton and Trainee Engineer Sam James have kicked off their campaign to raise a ton of money for Macmillan Cancer Care. On 10 May 2013 they will team up to run a mile around the perimeter of 13 football league grounds in the North West, all in the space of just 14 hours.

Chris and Sam are hoping to raise as much money as they can in memory of their friend and colleage Bill Wootten. Bill and his family were helped greatly by the Macmillan Nursing Team during his bowel cancer fight in 2009. Read more >> about Wootty's Footy Mile for Macmillan

Cabins go Green

Eco Cabins

KMI sites at Blackburn and Penrith are the first to take delivery of the brand new energy efficient 'Energy-Wise+' cabins supplied by Interserve Site Services.

These new cabins achieve a B rating when assessed against The Building Research Establishment’s Simplified Building Energy Model or SBEM.  This is equivalent to them using approximately 70% less electricity for heating and lighting than standard site cabins, which are typically 'E' Rated.
