COINS 24 Peaks - KMI climbs every mountain!

A team of intrepid walkers from KMI set off last Friday to take part in the COINS 24 Peaks Challenge.

This test of endurance, stamina and mental and physical fitness involved  trekking through the heart of the Lake District, conquering 24 peaks, each over 2,400 feet, with a total 13,000 feet height gain, covering 32.5 miles. All in a challenging 24 hours!

The team was led by Michael Taylor, aided by Jonathan Edwards, Charles Coates, Gary King, Ryan Hennessy, Robert Horan, Mark Rittenberg and Mark Harrison with support crew and drivers Simon Sheil and Paul Brooks.

Despite the soaring temperatures on Saturday they ploughed on to beat their competitors and cross the finish line in an impressive 22 hours raising over £7,500 for the COINS Foundation and gaining recognition for being the fastest full team and for raising the most money.  In the team's own words ‘they smashed it!’

The COINS challenge raises money for the COINS foundation to help fund infrastructure projects here in the UK and Africa.

Team Leader Mike Taylor commented ‘This is the toughest challenge COINS organise in the UK, and it lived up to its billing.  The weather over the weekend, although beautiful, didn't help us. The heat sapped everyone's energy within a few hours and it took real determination and team morale to push everyone through. The KMI team couldn't have been better; we had a great laugh and really worked well together. ‘
